Circuit 1

Cotonou- Porto Novo– Adjarra – Rivière Noir de l’Ouémé – Ganvié – Ouidah – Gogotinkpon – Grand-Popo– Abomey -Bohicon– Cotonou

Details of the visit:

Day 1

Visit some of Cotnou’s squares and major monuments (Amazon Square, Martyrs’ Square, Red Star, Dantokpa Market), then visit the Zinsou Foundation, a contemporary art museum. Then head to Togbin Beach, passing by the fishermen’s hut. Discover the fishermen’s activities, stroll along the beach. Celebrations and photos.

Day 2

Departure from Cotonou in the morning.
Explore Porto-Novo: visit the great Afro-Brazilian mosque, the Alexandre Sènou Adandé ethnographic museum, the Honmè royal palace, historic neighborhoods and traditional markets.
Overnight stay in Porto-Novo (central hotel of Songhaï center).

Day 3

Porto-Novo – Ouémé Black River – Adjara
Pirogue excursion on the Ouémé Black River in Adjara. Stroll through the vegetation, visit traditional villages, discover the production of Sodabi and local crafts. Return and overnight stay in Porto-Novo or overnight stay in Adjara in an ecolodge or homestay for an authentic immersion.

Day 4

Porto-Novo – Ganvié –
Early departure for Ganvié. Visit the lakeside village on Lake Nokoué, take a canoe ride through the houses on stilts, and discover local life.

Day 5

Drive to Ouidah.
Visit the Slave Route, the Gate of No Return, the Temple of the Pythons, and the sacred forest.
Overnight stay in Ouidah at a local hotel or lodge.

Day 6

Ouidah – Gogotinkpon
Departure for Gogotinkpon, an ecotourism village on the shores of Lake Ahémé. Nature activities: clay baths, canoe rides, and discovery of local culture.

Day 7

Drive to Grand-Popo.
Relax on the beaches, take a canoe ride on the Mono River, and visit the Bouche du Roy.
Overnight stay in Grand-Popo (inn, lodge, or hut on stilts).

Day 8

Drive to Abomey.
Visit royal palaces and museums, and learn about the history of the Kingdom of Dahomey.
You will also discover the history of the Amazons (very formidable warrior women of the Abomey kingdom).

Day 9

Bohicon
Bohicon is a city founded in the 20th century.
The Agongointo Underground Village, a unique archaeological site with historical remains and underground passages. This village is a relic of the ancient Abomey kingdom and served during the various wars with the colonists.
You will also discover the Agongointo Archaeological Park and the Dako Wègbè Private Zoological Park in Houawé. The city is also known for its lively market, where you can discover local products and the local atmosphere.
At Bohicon will also discover the Agongouinto underground villages, a relic of the ancient Abomey kingdom, which served during the various wars with the colonists.
Return to Cotonou at the end of the day or spend the night in Abomey, depending on the schedule.

Day 10

Dassa, the city of 41 hills.
The Omonjagoun people reign supreme in this historic city. History tells us that the first king of the kingdom didn’t die; he transformed into a snake.
This is the meaning of the sacred rituals of the Omonjagoun after their death.
